We need to take a look at the two candidates who are running for president, particularly when it pertains to the environment.
Senator McCain wants to do massive offshore drilling, incorporating it into his energy policy. His motto for doing this is, "Drill, baby, drill!" You probably saw on the VP debate when Governor Palin corrected Senator Biden, making sure he said the phrase correctly. Actually, Senator McCain opposed off shore oil drilling until June 16, 2008. As they say, he flip-flopped his views and suddenly began receiving massive monetary contributions from the oil companies. Check out more information regarding McCain's environmental record.
Senator Obama also wants to do offshore drilling, but only as a stopgap and not an energy policy. His main claim to environmental fame is that he wants to invest $150 billion dollars in renewable energy over the next 10 years. He is considering electrics, wind, solar and bio-fuels, while McCain has no such bill in his policy.
Governor Palin marches to the beat of her own drum. She, of course, wants to drill just about everywhere, even in the protected Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Governor Palin actually fought federal plans to protect the Stellar Sea Lion because of too much fishing. She categorically states she does not believe that humans have influenced global warming, despite all the scientific evidence.
Senator Joe Biden closely matches his presidential running mate Barack Obama on the environment. Among other things, he co-sponsored a bill calling on the US and the UN to work together on environmental issues. He has called for raising gas mileage on cars to 40 MPG by 2017, and has also called for using 10 billion gallons of renewable fuel by 2010 and 60 billion gallons by 2030.
This truly doesn't have to be political, and you can check out those links for more environmental information about each candidate. It's not whether the glass is half fuel or half empty, it's what's inside that counts.
