Natural Makeup Removers

Getting your makeup off Is easier than you think!

I admit it. I'm not getting any younger. I have those days where I lean into the mirror and wonder who that mature face is looking back at me, just like everyone else. While I may not know how to stop time, I do know how to take care of my skin. My friends remark about my clear, smooth complexion. I'd love to say it was pure genetics at work, but the fact is, my skin is a result of a lot of work and some smart choices, including one major beauty tip - I take off my makeup and keep my skin perfectly clean. When you leave makeup on overnight, the chemicals have the potential to clog your pores and damage your skin.

Although commercial makeup removers are effective in taking makeup off the skin, I find that they sometimes leave residue around my eyes. Then there's the fact that some of the cleansers are so full of chemicals, I can't understand how this can possibly be good for my skin.

So what's a gal to do? Natural makeup removers are not only cost-effective and purifying, but they can be made from products that you already have around your house. Here are a few things I use to keep my skin moisturized, clean and oh-so-lovely:

Baby shampoo is a great way to remove even the most resistant types of mascara. A tiny bit of baby shampoo, applied with a cotton ball or the tip of your finger, will effortlessly remove any mascara. Since this type of shampoo is gentler and softer, your eyes won't become irritated.

Raw milk is another natural alternative for those of you who are hesitant to apply oil on your face. Again, all you really have to do here is dip a cotton ball in some raw milk and apply it to your face.

Olive oil is a natural antioxidant and great for your skin. It is very gentle and contains no synthetic ingredients that can cause damage to your skin. After you apply a few drops to your eyes, wash off the rest with a little bit of soap and water. After you use it, use the rest to make some salad dressing. I'm kidding!

Aloe vera contains a soothing, cool gel that many people are familiar with. Gentle on burns, it is also particularly useful for makeup removal on sensitive skin. If you can find some jojoba oil, combine a few drops with some aloe vera and wipe your face gently. I found both of these in the health food stores, easily.

It seems everybody is "going natural" these days. I'm glad I did, too. Afterall, I'm not going to get older without a fight!

Jane Iridale makes a microfiber face cleaning mitt. No chemicals, oils or cleaners needed. just use warm water with the mitt & everything comes off easily without drying out your skin. I wash mine after each use with Dr. Bronner's Soap to remove the make up from it, then hang it to dry. Don't want germs building up on it.
