"I Do" Organic

Greening your wedding gown

When it comes to wearing white on your wedding day, the greener the better! After all, you’re starting a brand new life. What better way to set an eco-friendly tone for the future than to walk down the aisle in an eco-friendly wedding dress?

If you’re going to buy or make a brand new wedding gown, organic is the ideal way to go, and eco-conscious wedding dress designers are ready and willing to make that possible, like Threadhead Creations and Conscious Clothing. You may also purchase a second-hand gown that was donated to a charitable organization, such as Brides Against Breast Cancer. And though some designs may run several thousand dollars, you can also find them for just a few hundred too. You can also check with a local seamstress, ask if she can get organic fabric and have your dress custom-made just for you!

Then there’s green wedding gown option number two: recycled.

Whether it’s the one your mother wore 30 years ago, a vintage dress from an antique store or a secondhand gown you find on eBay, a recycled wedding dress is just as green as an organic one. In fact, it can even be more so, because you’re not consuming any new materials. It will most certainly need some alterations, but those will cost far less, and have a smaller carbon footprint, than a brand new gown.

With a little resourcefulness and flexibility, greening your wedding gown can be comparable in price (or even cheaper!) than going with the less than eco-friendly variety.

I have not been able to find another job and have been looking for a couple of years. I cannot live on my social security alone. Therefore, I've been forced to stop buying organic because it is at least twice as expensive if not three and four times as expensive and I simply can't afford to do it. Do you have any solutions?
