If you are looking for a cloth diaper horror story, you've come to the wrong place. Most parents remember only the horror stories about cloth diapering their baby. They will tell you to forget them, and go with disposable diapers. After all, you just take them off your baby and throw them away.
But, here's a horror story for you that's real. It takes between 200 and 500 years for petroleum based disposable diaper to decompose. Absolutely true! Although it does get the mess out of the changing room pretty easily, we must look at the mess it leaves in our landfills.
I am here to tell you my son was raised with cloth diapers and he is no worse for the wear. In fact, we were the kind of parents who at first refused to believe cloth diapers were anything but a nuisance. We tried one cloth diaper once when we ran out of disposables and never looked back. This is a true story.
We realized cloth diapers just are not so bad after all. Throw them in the diaper hamper, give it a shot of citrus spray and you're done. Put another one on and that's all there is too it. Our son never knew the difference. We certainly did when we found we had more money to spend on things like baby clothes and more baby clothes.
We traveled about with cornstarch based plastic bags, so when our son soiled a diaper, we just popped it in the bag and put on a new one. When we arrived home and dumped the dirty diaper in the hamper. It was as simple as that.
By using a lot of natural cornstarch powder, we found out not only did we just about eliminate diaper rash, but also the solid waste literally rolled right off the diaper and into the toilet. That was one of the most convenient things we ever discovered. Not only did our son feel good, but his parents felt equally good knowing we were keeping all that disposable diaper waste out of the local dump. And as an added bonus, we saved money, too.
I recommend this type of diapering to everyone with babies. Cotton diapers and cornstarch are the best things you can do for yourself, your baby, and the environment. Heck, I did it, it worked, and you can too! Kick the disposable diaper habit, because trust me, for everyone involved, landfills included, it's worth it.
