Finding a charity you can trust

Every time you give to charitable organizations, it’s something of a faith-based action. You must trust they’re going to help as they promise with no clear evidence of where your dollars are really going. It’s tough enough to make that jump for a charity that helps close to home, but tougher yet is doing so for charities that help beyond our borders.

Fortunately, there is an organization that takes the guesswork out of giving to charitable organizations that help overseas.

Charity Navigator International evaluates U.S.-based charities that invest money in international causes, as well as specific countries. In other words, you can help people beyond our borders by supporting American organizations endorsed by this unbiased third-party that accepts no donations from the charities it recommends.

When you visit the Charity Navigator International website, you can choose from four categories of charitable organizations:

1) Development and Relief Services

2) International Peace, Security and Affairs

3) Humanitarian Relief Supplies

4) Single Country Support Organizations

Once you’ve selected a category, you will find links to numerous organizations to choose from. Included in each profile is a rating based on the organization’s efficiency, an income statement, details on who leads the organization and a place for people to leave comments about their experience as a donor.
